What is a Chiropractic?

Chiropractic Australia (CA) describes Chiropractic as “a drug free, surgery free system of healthcare primarily for the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, muscles and ligaments) and some of the neurological system (nerves and the spinal cord).”

A Chiropractor is a university educated and trained primary health care practitioner, able to diagnose spinal and extremity injuries in all age groups. Chiropractors are trained and skilled in the management and treatment of many spinal pain disorders and dysfunction, through various Chiropractic Adjustments approaches, Soft Tissue Techniques, Mobilisation, Exercise Rehabilitation, and teaching injury prevention.

What do I need to bring?

Be prepared to provide documents you may have regarding your previous medical or surgical history. If you have them, bring any X-Rays, CT or MRI scans or reports, and a list of your current medications and nutritional supplements. If you have been referred by your GP, bring the referral or Enhanced Care Plan with you, or have it emailed to us before your appointment.

How many visits will I need?

Some patients enjoy immediate results from the various treatments we provide. Others find that their recovery takes longer. Longstanding or chronic problems tend to need more treatments to reach the desired outcome. There are many factors that come into play when we talk about your healing rate, such as your occupation, stress levels, general level of health, and psychosocial factors just to name a few. For this reason, whilst we cannot predict how long it will take for you to feel better, we will attempt to provide an approach that encompasses all aspects of care available for your fastest and best outcome. Reassessments and collaboration with your GP may be needed to keep a close eye on your progress.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Some patients may need to disrobe for their treatment with the chiropractor depending on the area that will be examined and treated. Your modesty will be protected at all times. We have patient gowns available to wear if you so desire, over the top  of your underwear, or if you feel more comfortable you can wear a pair of shorts. Not all patients will need to undress, so wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing, especially to your initial visit, where you will be asked to perform some range of movement and orthopaedic testing procedures that require freedom of movement.

How do I make an appointment?

Call us on 07 3356 7211, or book online directly from our website. If you have any questions, or cannot find a time you need, please call us and we will be happy to help on the phone. If you do have an Enhanced care plan, a DVA referral or a referral from your GP of any sort please let us know when you book your appointment.

Do I need a GP referral to be seen by the Chiropractor?

No, Chiropractors are primary care practitioners and can assess and treat you without a referral by your GP.  However, your GP may refer you under an Enhanced Care Plan, if your condition qualifies you for these approved bulk billed Chiropractic visits. If so, please bring this referral or have it emailed to our office.

Yes you can! Your body goes through many physical changes when you are pregnant which can affect your ability to move well. Many women
experience muscle and joint pain during pregnancy that can be treated effectively by a chiropractor. The types of treatment carried out may differ depending on what stage you are at in your pregnancy, but this will be outlined to you from the beginning and during each treatment session. If you are pregnant, it is very important to let us know so we can tailor your treatment accordingly.

Yes, you can claim on your private health fund for all services at Well & Wise (Chiropractic, Remedial Massage, Acupuncture and Clinical Psychology). It is always good to check with your health fund to find out your level of cover, and how much you will get back with each visit. We also have a HICAPS facility which means you only need to pay the gap (if there is one) on your services when you make an on the spot claim at our clinic.

Not necessarily. The ‘cracking’ of joints (aka ‘manipulation’ or ‘adjustment’) is just one of a wide variety of treatment techniques that a chiropractor can use. If your chiropractor deems it safe and beneficial to perform such a technique on you, they will explain to you beforehand why they want to do it, along with benefits and risks associated with it. Only once you are fully informed and give your consent for the treatment will it be carried out. This goes for any treatment technique performed in the consultation. Other possible treatment techniques include massage, joint mobilisation, dry needling and or
acupuncture, stretching and active exercise.

Generally Chiropractic adjustments help to restore joint function to the spine and extremities of the body (skeletal system), and Remedial Massage helps to restore proper length, integrity and function of all the muscles of the body (muscular system). To determine what is needed and when, can be a tricky and difficult question to answer. Often both of these systems work closely together, and in some cases both types of treatments are needed together to achieve the desired outcome.
